What's Happening

On October 3, re-enactors set up camp on the grounds of Rose Hill Mansion in Geneva for Civil War Day — a free, all-day program where you can spend several hours with living history demonstrations of what soldiers' lives actually looked like during the Civil War era. Rose Hill, an 1839 Greek Revival mansion above Seneca Lake, is exactly the kind of place that makes this feel grounded rather than performative: a historic site doing what historic sites do best, making the past feel close. It fits naturally into an overnight in Geneva or a long Seneca Lake fall day trip where the foliage has started to turn.
